Squarespace for Hotels: Can It Really Handle Bookings?
Yes — Squarespace can absolutely run a hotel website that takes real bookings, but only if the booking engine is integrated properly. We've built hotel websites on Squarespace for independent boutiques through to internationally branded properties, and the difference between a site that fills rooms and one that frustrates guests almost always comes down to how the booking journey is stitched together.
Can Squarespace connect to a hotel booking engine?
Squarespace doesn't have a native hotel booking system, and that's fine — hotels shouldn't want one. What it does brilliantly is integrate with the professional booking engines hotels already use: SiteMinder, Mews, Cloudbeds, Guestline, Profitroom and the engines behind branded portfolios. The booking widget or link sits inside a beautifully designed Squarespace front-end, and the guest never feels the seam.
When we built the website for Velvet Hotel in Manchester, the brief was exactly this: a plush, imagery-led site with an integrated booking system for both rooms and the on-site brasserie. Since launch, Velvet has reported consistently high conversion from visits to bookings — and, crucially, strong direct bookings rather than relying on commission-hungry OTAs.
What are the advantages of Squarespace for a hotel?
Three things make Squarespace a genuinely strong platform for independent hotels:
- Design quality guests can feel. Hotel bookings are emotional decisions. Squarespace's templates and our custom design work let photography breathe — and photography sells rooms.
- Your team can actually use it. Updating a seasonal offer or a menu shouldn't require a developer. Squarespace's editor means your marketing team owns the day-to-day.
- Speed and security are handled. Hosting, SSL and updates are built in. No plugins to patch at 2am, which is more than can be said for some platforms.
When is Squarespace the wrong choice for a hotel?
Honesty matters here: if you're running a 40-property group needing multi-site content management, complex loyalty integration and per-property CMS permissions, you'll likely outgrow Squarespace. For single properties and small collections, though, it's hard to beat the balance of beauty, cost and control.
What does a Squarespace hotel website need to convert?
From over a decade of hotel web design, the essentials are: a persistent, obvious "Book Now" that carries dates into the engine; room pages built around large photography with rates visible early; mobile-first everything (most lookers are on their phone); genuine reasons to book direct stated plainly; and pages fast enough that a guest on hotel-comparison autopilot doesn't bounce.
